The 31-year-old former England international had his contract terminated by a mutual agreement on Wednesday afternoon following months as part of the club’s so-called “bomb squad”, training separately from the first team.

Sterling spent three and a half years at Chelsea after becoming the first statement signing of the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership at the club when they signed him from Manchester City for £47.5million in 2022.

Details of how much of his remaining 18-month, £325,000-a-week contract was paid off by Chelsea remain undisclosed but it is understood that Chelsea made a saving by the player and club parting ways now.

Raheem Sterling scored the winner as Chelsea beat Bournemouth in May 2024, his final appearance for the club

He is now a free agent available to sign and is open to all market opportunities as he seeks a fresh start in the autumn of his career following a frustrating end to life at Chelsea for all parties.

Upon leaving, Sterling released a brief statement on Instagram, writing: “All eyes on the future. God is great.”

Chelsea also released a statement as they announced Sterling was no longer contracted to the club.

It read: “Raheem Sterling has today departed Chelsea Football Club by mutual agreement, bringing to an end three-and-a-half seasons as our player, having signed in the summer of 2022 when he was transferred from Manchester City.
