“Makes me very happy” – Excitement as club agree deal for Arsenal player

Oleksandr Zinchenko’s imminent move to Ajax from Arsenal is causing plenty of excitement at the Dutch club.

That’s at least if the reaction from Danny Koevermans and Anco Jansen is anything to go by. Voetbal Primeur cover comments from the duo today as Zinchenko closes in on a move to the Dutch giants.

The Ukrainian is close to sealing a move to the Netherlands after terminating a loan deal at Nottingham Forest. He joined them in the summer but has barely featured for them this season.

A cancellation was sought by all parties and has now been agreed, paving the way for him to join Ajax on a six-month deal. They had initially sought a loan deal with Arsenal but are instead paying the last six months of his contract at the Emirates to get him permanently instead.

Indeed, a report yesterday stated that Zinchenko was due to undergo a medical this week ahead of completing the move. That came after the loan agreement with Nottingham Forest was finally terminated.

Arsenal player being welcomed as a star

According to Voetbal Primeur, the idea is that he joins Ajax for six months to ‘gain exposure’ for a possible move next summer. That might raise eyebrows, but Koevermans and Jansen are more than happy with the deal.

“He also held his own as a full-back in the Premier League, and they’re certainly no slouch either,” said the former.

“Of course, he was with the best team. But if you can hold your own in the Premier League, you should be able to do the same in the Eredivisie.”

“It makes me very happy,” added Jansen.

“He’s a good footballer. I always thought he was a brilliant player, and I think he fits in well with Ajax. He has a beautiful style of play. He’s also a guy who doesn’t put you under pressure in build-up play; he’s very creative. He’s a different type of player than what we already have.”
