Chelsea 'close in on double transfer' with Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City to miss out

Chelsea are reportedly set to beat Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City to an exciting double deal. The west Londoners have been among the Premier League's biggest spenders in recent years but are yet to make a single January signing. The start of their window was disrupted by the sacking of Enzo Maresca, with Liam Rosenior coming in to replace him.

The former Strasbourg boss has made a decent start to his reign at Stamford Bridge and things have finally settled down after an initial period of uncertainty. Now, the Blues are said to be chasing their first two signings of the January window. They are said to be looking north of the border, with two talented youngsters thought to be in their sights.

Rangers left-back Ashton Scally and Hearts midfielder Boyd Fraser are the players in question, according to The Sun. Both aged 15, they have reportedly attracted the interest of several Premier League clubs over the course of this season.

Chelsea, however, are in pole position to snap up the duo after beating the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and City in the race for their signatures.

Scally has been making waves at Rangers, excelling for the club's academy sides as well as playing for Scotland at youth level. He is rated so highly that manager Danny Rohl wanted to hand him a first-team appearance against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup.

That never materialised, though, due to SFA competition rules banning players under the age of 16 from being included in matchday squads.

At the time, Rohl said: "It was a shame we were not allowed to take Ashton because he could use this opportunity to play, but there are some rules. He is a high-potential player who we want to keep. He can help us in the future."

Scally is now poised to join Chelsea, with Fraser also set to sign for the Stamford Bridge giants before the transfer window closes next week.

The latter has represented Hearts against senior opposition this season, having recovered from a long-term injury which kept him sidelined for much of the previous campaign.

Chelsea are said to be confident they have won the race to sign both players, who are expected to officially join the club in the summer.

In a statement, Chelsea said: "Raheem Sterling has today departed Chelsea Football Club by mutual agreement, bringing to an end three-and-a-half seasons as our player, having signed in the summer of 2022 when he was transferred from Manchester City.

"We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career."
