Arsenal have much to contemplate during the closing stages of the January transfer window. The Gunners will be keen for Mikel Arteta to have the most formidable squad available as the club pursues silverware across multiple competitions this season.

The Premier League leaders endured a blow with their loss to Manchester United but maintain a four-point advantage in their quest to secure an elusive league title. Arsenal's immediate priority will be completing the Champions League league phase with a perfect record as Arteta's men gear up to welcome Kairat to the Emirates Stadium.

While the Gunners have flourished in European competition, their attack's recentstruggles to score have come under the spotlight as deadline day looms. Here's a look at some of the latest transfer speculation surrounding the Gunners.

Martin Odegaard discussion emerges

Early signs suggest that Ethan Nwaneri made a shrewd choice in leaving the Gunners on loan during the January window. Having found himself on the periphery of Arsenal's squad, the 18-year-old found the net within 13 minutes of his Marseille debut last weekend.

Arsenal and Nwaneri will hope his spell in France continues to demonstrate why he merits increased playing time under Arteta, having not started a league match for the Gunners this season. Martin Odegaard can empathise with Nwaneri's situation, having had multiple loan moves during his own career, and the skipper revealed what advice he offered the teenager before his switch to Marseille.

"I went on loan a few times when I was a young player and so I spoke with Ethan before he left about it," Odegaard wrote in Arsenal's matchday programme. "We spoke about what he was feeling about his situation and the opportunity, and I understand it - I've been there too. Obviously, you always want to play more, so this will be a good move for him."

He added: "At that stage of your career, you need to play games to grow even more and it's a chance for him to take more responsibility and to grow as a player, and as a person."

Midfielder 'open' to transfer

Ajax have reportedly begun discussions with Arsenal regarding a potential deal for Christian Norgaard. The ex-Brentford player was signed for £12million in the summer but has had limited opportunities due to competition in midfield, making six starts across 11 appearances.

Arsenal continue their UEFA Champions League campaign as they host FC Kairat on January 28. Fans can watch the game on Prime Video's TNT Sports channel.

Caught Offside reports that Norgaard is top of Ajax's wishlist, with the midfielder claimed to be open to joining the Amsterdam outfit. Arsenal are believed to value the 31-year-old at approximately £14million, while Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, Roma and Lazio are also said to be monitoring the midfielder's situation.

However, Norgaard recently dismissed transfer speculation during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday. The Arsenal star said: "No, I'm really, really happy here and the messages I get from the club is that they're really happy with me as well."

Regarding his game time, Norgaard continued: "I would obviously love to play more minutes, but the minutes I've had so far I've really enjoyed. Also, in the competition we're playing in tomorrow, I've had a few games, and for me it's the first run in the Champions League, so it's been amazing.

"Even though I'm not playing as much, I still try to contribute with everything I can around the group."
