Liverpool’s January loan activity is set to intensify over the coming days as the Reds finalise temporary moves for several promising academy talents

The flurry of departures begins with Wales international Lewis Koumas, who returned to Anfield this week after his loan spell at Birmingham City was terminated. He is expected to join Hull City before the window ends. He only managed to find the net once in 25 appearances for Birmingham, and will no doubt be eager to maintain regular first-team football as he aims to cement his place in Craig Bellamy’s Wales squad ahead of a potential 2026 World Cup appearance.

Elsewhere, left-back Calum Scanlon is being courted by Cardiff City, who are pushing for promotion in League One. Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas’ situation at Roma remains in flux, with Turkish giants Besiktas emerging as surprise suitors for the Greek left-back. Tsimikas has endured a frustrating loan spell in Serie A.

However, an intriguing development has emerged concerning academy forward Keyrol Figueroa. The Athletic reports that the 19-year-old USA youth international is expected to sign a new contract at Anfield before departing on loan to a club in either League One or League Two this window.

This update effectively extinguishes speculation linking Figueroa with a move to FC Porto, despite reports from Portuguese and Honduran outlets claiming the Primeira Liga leaders were closing in on a deal.

The son of former Wigan Athletic and Honduras defender Maynor Figueroa has been in electric form for Liverpool’s Under-21 side this season, netting 11 goals in 12 Premier League 2 appearances to sit joint-top of the scoring charts.

His impending contract extension signals the club’s long-term faith in the teenager, with a domestic loan spell designed to provide his first taste of senior football while keeping him within the English football pyramid.
