Liverpool's defensive vulnerabilities are yet to prompt the reigning Premier League champions into making any major January transfer window additions. With only four days left for clubs to secure new signings, the Reds have thus far chosen to persist with the team into which they invested £450million last summer.

The unavailability of the injured Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate owing to personal matters has thrust Arne Slot into a defensive emergency during a crucial spell that could shape his Anfield tenure.

The backline troubles have prompted large sections of the fanbase to demand reinforcements be secured this month. However, with the winter window rapidly closing, any prospective deals will need to be completed quickly.

Whether any additions receive approval before February 2nd remains uncertain, but there has been no shortage of players linked with a potential move to the Reds. We examine the latest transfer reports emerging from Anfield, including an imminent exit and a primary defensive target for Slot.

Lewis Koumas is poised to join Championship outfit Hull City in what would mark his second loan move of the season. The 20-year-old - whose father is former Wales international Jason Koumas - spent the opening half of the campaign at Birmingham City before his loan was terminated early following just seven league appearances.

A switch to Hull, who currently sit fourth and are chasing promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2017, is said to be viewed by Liverpool as the perfect destination for the talented striker.

Koumas made his Reds debut during the 2023/24 season under Jurgen Klopp and found the net on his senior debut in a 3-0 victory over Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round.

Having lost out on Marc Guehi to Manchester City earlier in the window, the Reds now seem to be exploring alternative options at the back.

According to The Times, Rennes centre-half Jeremy Jacquet is amongst the names being considered at Anfield. Jacquet has been linked with numerous clubs this summer, and the Reds appear to be competing with Chelsea and Bayern Munich for the 20-year-old's services.

The Blues were reportedly in talks with the defender over personal terms but no agreement has been reached. The pursuit of Jacquet is anticipated to intensify once more in the summer, when Liverpool could make their move.
