Galatasaray ultras cause chaos in Manchester as city centre brought to a standstill

Manchester City play host to Galatasaray in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening with visiting fans causing chaos via their large numbers, as flares and fireworks were set off

Manchester city centre was brought to a standstill on Wednesday evening, as hundreds of fans made their way towards the Etihad Stadium. The two sides are set to take on one another in the at 8pm and, The Manchester Evening News, Galatasaray fans congregated on Shambles Square close to the Arndale Centre ahead of a traditional escorted walk to the ground.

Thousands of supporters were heard shouting 'Istanbul' as video captured at the scene showed a number of fans setting off flares in the street - as the sky was filled with red smoke. Officers from were also seen in numbers.
