Mikel Arteta has had a quiet January
Arsenal have plenty to think about in the closing days of the January transfer window. The Gunners will be keen for Mikel Arteta to possess the strongest possible squad as the club chases multiple trophies this season.
The Premier League leaders encountered a blow in their loss to Manchester United but still maintain a four-point advantage in their quest to secure a long-awaited league crown. Arsenal's immediate priority will be completing the Champions League group stage.
While the Gunners have flourished in European action, their recent shortage of ruthlessness domestically has led to the side facing scrutiny as deadline day looms. Here's a detailed examination of some of the latest transfer stories surrounding the club.

Early indications suggest that Ethan Nwaneri made the correct choice to depart the Gunners on loan during the January transfer window. Having been on the periphery of the Arsenal squad, Nwaneri found the net just 13 minutes into his Marseille bow last weekend, reports the Mirror.
Arsenal and Nwaneri will be hoping that his stint in France continues to demonstrate why he merits additional playing time under Arteta, having failed to start a Premier League match for the Gunners this season.
Martin Odegaard can empathise with Nwaneri's predicament, having experienced several loan moves during his own career, and the skipper revealed what advice he offered the youngster before his switch to Marseille.
"I went on loan a few times when I was a young player and so I spoke with Ethan before he left about it," Odegaard penned in Arsenal's matchday programme.
"We spoke about what he was feeling about his situation and the opportunity, and I understand it - I've been there too. Obviously, you always want to play more, so this will be a good move for him."

Ajax have allegedly initiated discussions with Arsenal regarding a potential deal for Christian Norgaard.
The ex-Brentford midfielder was brought in for £12million during the summer but has faced restricted opportunities due to fierce competition in midfield, managing six starts across 11 outings.
Caught Offside claims that Norgaard sits at the summit of Ajax's wishlist, with the midfielder reportedly receptive to joining the Amsterdam outfit. Arsenal are said to rate the 31 year old at approximately £14m, whilst Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, Roma and Lazio are also believed to harbour interest in the player.
However, Norgaard dismissed the transfer rumours during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday. The Arsenal ace stated: "No, I'm really, really happy here and the messages I get from the club is that they're really happy with me as well."

Addressing his limited playing time, Norgaard said: "I would obviously love to play more minutes, but the minutes I've had so far I've really enjoyed.
Also, in the competition we're playing in tomorrow, I've had a few games, and for me it's the first run in the Champions League, so it's been amazing. Even though I'm not playing as much, I still try to contribute with everything I can around the group."
