Raheem Sterling leaves Chelsea by mutual consent

Raheem Sterling has left Chelsea by mutual consent after agreeing to terminate his contract early.

The 31-year-old had 18 months left on a deal worth £325,000 a week.

Sterling departs after three and a half seasons at Stamford Bridge, having joined from Manchester City for £47.5m in 2022.

A club spokesperson said: “We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career.”

The England international made 81 appearances for Chelsea, but has not featured in a competitive match since May 2024. He went out on loan to Arsenal last season, but failed to make an impact at the Emirates either.

In recent months, Sterling had even been training away from the first team at the club’s Cobham base, after failing to secure a move during the summer window. Photographs taken at Cobham earlier this month showed the winger training alone.

A number of clubs, including Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen, have explored potential deals, while talks over a move to Fulham last summer did not bear fruit.

Sterling, who began his professional career at Liverpool and has won 13 major trophies, is understood to want to remain in London but is open to options in England or overseas.
