Jeremie Frimpong has been forced off with injury early into Liverpool's Champions League clash against FK Qarabag. The Dutch international pulled up clutching his hamstring after just a few minutes, with Wataru Endo coming on in his place.

The summer signing has been ravaged by muscular issues this season, with the latest blow appearing a big one. The wing-back immediately clutched his leg and fell to the floor when chasing Qarabag's winger, with Dominik Szoboszlai signalling to the bench that he needed to come off as medical staff assessed him.

The latest injury issue further deepens Liverpool's injury woes, with Conor Bradley ruled out for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

The Northern Ireland international has successfully undergone surgery on the issue, which he suffered during the goalless draw against Arsenal.

Liverpool are already threadbare at the back with Joe Gomez out injured, alongside long-term absentee Giovanni Leoni and Ibrahima Konate, who remains out due to compassionate leave.

Alexander Isak is the other star expected out for the next few months after breaking his leg in the 2-1 win over Tottenham just before Christmas.

Liverpool have been hampered by injury issues recently as well, with Gomez picking up a new issue during the defeat to Bournemouth.

The Reds were forced to play the majority of the final League Phase match against Qarabag with two midfielders in defence as Endo came on for Frimpong, while Ryan Gravenberch deputised alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Slot spoke about the injury problems Liverpool have faced in his press conference earlier this week.

He said: "Even if you would reconsider and you come to a different decision, then the question is are we able to change it? Can we make this squad bigger with the money available and the things we can do?

"We are maybe one or two players short compared to last season in terms of numbers, and if you add then three long-term injuries to that, then all of a sudden it is quite a lot.

"This is not going to be a popular opinion what I am going to tell you now. But maybe the reason we won the league last season is we had to play Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16, because as you know they beat us and we had every time a week to prepare for our next game.

"We are aware, every manager is aware, the bigger squad you have, the better equipped you are for so many games. But I am also aware of the fact that even today I had to disappoint one or two players that would prefer to play.

"Now if you have 10 or 15 who want that, that is also not a good thing to have. It is not an easy balance to find, but obvious because of the three long-term injuries, now it is a disbalance, that is obvious."

Following the blow to Frimpong, Liverpool went in front with Alexis Mac Allister, with the help of Virgil van Dijk, heading home at the back post after a flick-on from a corner by Hugo Ekitike.

Minutes later, the Reds doubled their lead as Florian Wirtz scored his first European goal for the club. The German capped off a superb team move as he wrong-footed Mateusz Kochalski.
