Renée "really happy with where the team is at"

Renée Slegers suggested in recent interviews that goals were the only thing missing from our games, and she was treated to six of them on Wednesday.

Despite facing a new opponent, her team adapted to the uncertainty with confidence, cruising to a 4-0 lead at half-time courtesy of goals from Stina Blackstenius, Frida Maanum, Mariona Caldentey and Olivia Smith.

Alessia Russo came on in the second half to add another couple as we booked our place in Sunday's FIFA Women's Champions Cup final against Corinthians at Arsenal Stadium (6pm).

"We had to be comfortable with the unknown tonight, because we obviously have never played against this opposition before," our head coach explained. "And the players were, and we had to bring our game and we had to earn the right to play today on the pitch.

"Do the basics really well, be humble about things and we really connected them together on the pitch. And I think the players did that. We have players who start the game, we have players who finish the game.

"There's a lot of partnerships, new partnerships, partnerships that change on the pitch. So I'm really happy with where the team is at. Clean sheet tonight and six goals, which is very good for us as well.

"And then I also want to say the opposition is an inspiration for us as well. The way they are pioneering for women's football in Africa and Morocco specifically, it was inspirational to play against them."

With another new opponent on the horizon, we won't be underestimating Corinthians after their 1-0 win over Gotham FC in the semi-finals.

"It's one game and it's, of course, the champions of the different continents. So it's never going to be an easy game. I watched it earlier today, but we're going to prepare in detail.

"They won the game with a goal and they did everything to get the win. They look like a very passionate, strong, disciplined and technically gifted team. So it's going to be an exciting game.

"And we're happy that we're at home in front of the Arsenal fans. The team is doing really well. And it's not only what you see, the results are the results of what they're doing in the background, how they're investing and how we are together in everything at the moment.

"It's a pleasure to work with the team and I'm really happy that they get the results and the wins. They deserve it."
