Latest Austin Reaves injury update: Approximate return date revealed

The Los Angeles Lakers are hopeful Austin Reaves will make a comeback at some point during their current four-game road trip.

Los Angeles Lakers star guard Austin Reaves is nearing a comeback after suffering a calf injury in late December.

Los Angeles Lakers / Schedule

According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, Reaves will miss tonight's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the Lakers are hopeful he will return at some point during their current four-game road trip.

"The Lakers are still hopeful they will get Reaves back in the lineup at some point on this road trip," McMenamin reported ahead of the game vs. the Cavs. "There are still three more games after the Cleveland game—they're going to D.C. to play the Wizards, then they go to New York for a pair of games against the Knicks and the Nets."

"Austin's been ramping up behind the scenes, playing in what they call 'stay ready' games, basically five-on-five with some of the bench players and some of the coaches, and so far there have been no setbacks whatsoever."

"But they want to make sure he's completely comfortable by the time he goes into the lineup, so it's not like a start-and-stop type of situation," he noted.

Before going down with the injury, Reaves was enjoying a career season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.2 rebounds. His brilliance helped the Lakers carve out a strong start to the 2025–26 season despite LeBron James' early-season absence due to sciatica.
