Liverpool injury update on Jeremie Frimpong after the 6-0 victory over Qarabag in the Champions League at Anfield.

Arne Slot has provided an injury update on Jeremie Frimpong after Liverpool’s victory over Qarabag.

The Reds cruised to a 6-0 victory over the Azerbaijani outfit at Anfield to secure third place in the league phase of the Champions League and secure a spot in the last 16. Alexis Mac Allister was at the double, while Florian Wirtz, Mo Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa were on target in the resounding triumph.

However, the blackmark on the win was that Frimpong was forced off within three minutes. The right-back pulled up when chasing a Qarabag forward and could not continue.

Liverpool were already without Curtis Jones (illness), Ibrahima Konate (compassionate leave), Joe Gomez (hip), Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni (both knee), Jayden Danns and Stefan Bajcetic (both hamstring).

Frimpong has had two hamstring problems since his £29.5 million arrival from Bayer Leverkusen last summer. And Slot has ruled the Netherlands international out of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United. The Liverpool boss said: “It is obvious if a player goes out, don’t expect him to play Saturday against Newcastle. Jeremie is out, let’s see what the future holds.

“Let’s see how Jeremie is. Not available to play Saturday but maybe able to play later. It’s a muscle injury. A muscle usually has to do with overloading a player, not always but it is a risk.”

Meanwhile, Slot admitted that it will be tight for Gomez to be back against Newcastle. The versatile defender was forced off in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat by Bournemouth.
