Lakers insider weighs in on LeBron James retirement tour

James reportedly doesn't necessarily like a farewell tour in his final NBA season.

Now 41 and playing his 23rd NBA season, LeBron James has been drawing the anticipation of the basketball world in his upcoming last dance.

Los Angeles Lakers / Schedule

But in his departure from the game, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar is reportedly distancing himself from publicized exposure. Per ESPN's Dave McMenamin, James doesn't necessarily want a farewell tour from the entire NBA, as there might be disappointment that could be attached regarding his playing availability.

“That could bring some negative with it if his body doesn’t cooperate, he goes to a city, everybody buys tickets, and he is unable to play. He doesn’t want that disappointment following him," McMenamin noted.

In the 2015-16 season, the late great Kobe Bryant obtained and enjoyed his well-deserved farewell tour from the entire NBA.

At this stage of his career, LeBron already gone through multiple injuries. He notably missed the initial portion of the 2025-26 campaign due to sciatica.

In the end, everyone can only wait for the final decision of James on when he would like to hang it up. But his playing days might still be far from over, as he's averaging a productive 22.4 points, 6.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game.
