Yet another injury blow sours a great night for Manchester City

Manchester City clinched a vitally important top-eight finish in the Champions League league phase table with a professional 2-0 win over Galatasaray at the Etihad Stadium tonight. First half goals from Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki were enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to achieve their goal. Both of Manchester City’s first half goals were set up by the dazzling Jeremy Doku. Doku was brilliant for 37 minutes before injury struck. The Belgian international was taken off with a calf injury as City suffered yet another injury blow.

Pep Guardiola has revealed that Jeremy Doku has sustained a calf injury.

Speaking after his team’s important win over Galatasaray, Pep Guardiola revealed that Jeremy Doku was forced off the pitch tonight due to a calf injury. The Manchester City manager also revealed that Doku is likely out of Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. When asked about Jeremy Doku’s injury, in quotes relayed by CityXtra, Guardiola said: “He looks injured. The calf. He felt something. (Out for the weekend?) I think so.”

Guardiola further explained: “*Jeremy (Doku) has had these little problems; his muscles, with the demands, his effort.*”

“But yeah, hopefully (by) March (in the Champions League), he can be ready to help us. Because in (Real) Madrid he was exceptional, for example, I remember. In Norway (vs Bodø/Glimt), he couldn’t play from what everybody knows what happened in Old Trafford. Unfortunately he’s not ready for a few more days.”

Manchester City will be hoping that Doku’s injury isn’t too serious.

Jeremy Doku was at his scintillating best before injury struck at the Etihad Stadium tonight. He tormented the Galatasaray defence, and his ability to drift infield coupled with his pace and trickery was too much for the Galatasaray defence to contend with. Doku picked up two assists, and he looked set for a dominant performance in a crucial match. That was until Doku was forced off with a calf injury in the 37th minute. Doku was caught by several Galatasaray players in tough challenges throughout the first half. He was also on the receiving end of heavy challenges against Manchester United and Wolves. Doku has taken a hammering recently, and perhaps that has contributed to his injury.

Manchester City will be hoping that Jérémy Doku’s injury isn’t a serious one. They do have cover for Doku in Antoine Semenyo for their upcoming matches. Savinho is also injured, and Oscar Bobb is on the verge of completing a move to Fulham. Manchester City’s attacking options will be limited with Jeremy Doku absent.

It was a great shame to see Jeremy Doku go off injured against Galatasaray. He looked set for a big night after a dazzling opening half-hour in a big match for Manchester City. Given that Doku has now sustained a calf injury, as per Pep Guardiola’s update, it is hoped that the injury doesn’t keep him out of action for too long, given the important run of fixtures City have on the horizon.
