The Champions League prize money Liverpool just earned vs Qarabag as £45m still up for grabs

Liverpool are now into the last-16 of the 2025/26 Champions League.

Fresh off the back of a 3-0 win over Marseille in France, the Reds went one better on Wednesday.

Liverpool beat Qarabag 6-0 at Anfield to guarantee their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Not only should it ease some of the pressure on Arne Slot, but it also means the Merseyside outfit have avoided the dreaded league phase play-offs, which take place in February.

Liverpool have squad issues right now, and two extra games really would not have been ideal for Slot.

However, as well as the club not having to worry about more matches, their win on January 28 has earned them a nice cash boost.

Who was Liverpool’s best player on a much better night at Anfield?

But on top of securing that fee after hammering Qarabag, Liverpool have now earned a further eight-figure boost.

Every side that qualifies for the last-16 of the competition nets €11m (around £9.5m).

Liverpool could face four teams in the last-16, with Atletico Madrid perhaps the toughest opponents.

Should they progress further, they would earn a further €12.5m (around £10.8m) for making it into the quarter-finals.

Semi-final participants are awarded €15m (around £12.9m), while reaching the final brings with it an extra €18.5m (around £16m).

UEFA then hand the eventual winners of the Champions League €6.5m (around £5.6m).

So, if Liverpool go all the way in the competition, they could be walking away with €52.5m (around £45.4m).

Who is your ideal last-16 opponent and who do you want to avoid?

Liverpool may need the Champions League for more than just money

A potential cash boost of over £45m would be great for the club.

However, it’s not just the money Liverpool may need this season.

Slot may be enjoying success in Europe, but the Reds are yet to win a league fixture in 2026.

As a result, they have dropped out of the Champions League places behind Manchester United and Chelsea.

However, the winner of the competition automatically qualifies for next season’s tournament.

It would be a strange scenario, but given how different Liverpool look in each competition this term, it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing in the world if they finished 6th or lower in the league yet still won the Champions League.
