Arne Slot has been under a lot of pressure following Liverpool’s decline in the 2025/26 season.
Fans want Slot to be replaced, and have even suggested Steven Gerrard could become interim boss.
Liverpool appointing an interim manager can’t be ruled out, according to one journalist, but FSG are not exactly known for making snap decisions, even when things are going badly.

Steven Gerrard suggests what FSG think about Arne Slot at Liverpool
However, despite the issues with both results and performances, Gerrard doesn’t think Slot is under pressure from those inside Anfield right now.
Speaking live on TNT Sports while covering the Qarabag fixture on Wednesday evening, the ex-midfielder was asked about the Dutchman’s situation by Laura Woods.

He said: “I think he is under pressure, for sure. I think there’s a large section of the Liverpool fans that are very frustrated. I think some have had enough. I think his pressure is more external, media and supporters that are not happy with the form Liverpool are in from a league point of view.
“I think internally it’ll be different. I think Liverpool have got extremely strong owners, fantastic owners. I think they’d want to give the manager on the back of last season, any manager for that matter, as much support, and they’d want to be extremely strong for Arne Slot during this tough time, and try and give him the opportunity to get the team out of it and fix the issues that they’ve got.
“Knowing Richard Hughes a little bit and Michael Edwards a bit more, I think they would want to be strong and rally around the manager. That’s what Liverpool have done historically.”

When Liverpool could discuss a change of manager
While Gerrard is probably correct in his assessment, if results continue as they have in the league, something must surely change.
It was suggested this week that Slot will leave Liverpool at the end of 2025/26, ‘whatever happens’.
Whether that is the case remains to be seen, but no Champions League football is unlikely to help his case.
Liverpool are next in Premier League action on Saturday evening against Newcastle United, which seems like a must-win tie for the manager.
