A second half comeback fuelled by Joao Pedro was enough to give Chelsea automatic qualification into the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League.
The Blues took the lead early from the penalty spot, but struggled to hang on to their advantage. Antonio Conte's side lacked depth and first team quality due to their long injury list, but troubled their opponents regardless and took a 2-1 lead into the half.
Liam Rosenior switched from his man-to-man press to a more familiar system in the second half, and could call on several key players from the bench. Cole Palmer set up both Joao Pedro goals, which was enough for the three points.
Here is how every Chelsea player rated:
Starting Lineup
Robert Sanchez - 7
Bailed the Blues out on a number of occasions and was a stalwart in defence.
Malo Gusto - 6
A quiet outing by the full-back, who struggled in defence and couldn't progress the ball down the right flank. Mathias Olivera - Gusto's marker - provided both assists for Napoli's goals.
Reece James - 7
Thrown into a wide range of roles across the full ninety minutes, and handled each one with professionalism and skill. A real captain's performance from James.
Wesley Fofana - 6.5
Stuck to Rasmus Hojlund like glue, and was overall proficient at nullifying the striker. Arguably should have done better to prevent Napoli's opener - beaten easily with a Maradona turn by Antonio Vergara.
Marc Cucurella - 7
Struggled as a left centre back during the first half, and had a much better outing as Rosenior changed up his system in the second half.
Andrey Santos - 6.5
Growing in confidence and forming a solid partnership with Moises Caicedo in the middle - but occasionally struggled to make an impact on the game. Often slotted into the defensive line for additional support. Subbed on the hour mark.
Moises Caicedo - 6.5
Similarly to Santos, Caicedo's ball-winning ability was greatly reduced by Napoli's system. Pressed high in the first half, which sometimes opened up space in midfield.
Estêvão - 6
A quieter game for the young starlet, especially after his goal and assist against Palace. Sometimes over-ambitious and looked to take on shots himself, which led to promising chances being wasted.
Enzo Fernandez - 7
Gifted a penalty early on, which he dispatched with ease. Chelsea's key to progression through the middle, and grew in confidence as the game went on.
Pedro Neto - 6.5
Seemingly deployed as a wing-back in the first half, and struggled in his one-on-ones which allowed Napoli freedom down the right. Was a good source of creativity out wide for Chelsea at the other end. Brought off at half time.
Joao Pedro - 8.5
Two fantastic goals from the Brazilian, who is in a real purple patch at the moment. Tasked with holding up play with his back to goal, but was more effective when played through by a teammate. Was given the UEFA Player of the Match award.
Substitutes
Cole Palmer - 7.5
Will be delighted with his handful of assists off the bench, especially the weighted through ball for Joao Pedro's second goal. A solid footing to build momentum from.
Trevoh Chalobah - 7
Arguably should have started the game, as Chelsea's defence looked much improved with the centre-back on the pitch.
Jamie Gittens - 6.5
Brought on to add potency to the Blues' attack as they pushed for a comeback, and taken off again when the job was done. Some nice moments and was adept at stretching the Napoli defence.
Alejandro Garnacho - 6
Couldn't get into the game - perhaps due to Rosenior pairing him with Gittens on the same flank. A sloppy giveaway in the defensive half nearly gave the home side a late equaliser.
Benoit Badiashile - N/A
Called upon to maintain Chelsea's one goal lead in the last few minutes.
