Andy Robertson made his first start in the Premier League or Champions League since New Year’s Day on Wednesday as Liverpool swept Qarabag aside at Anfield.
The left-back has been the subject of much speculation in the weeks since, after news emerged that he could leave for Tottenham Hotspur.
Initially, there had been claims that Wednesday’s Champions League clash would be Robertson’s last match for Liverpool before sealing a move to Spurs.

Despite reports that Liverpool had pulled the plug on the left-back’s transfer last weekend, there have since been further rumblings that Robertson could still leave before the end of the January window.
As a result, fans may have been nervously watching the Scot’s movements after the final whistle sounded on a 6-0 win for the Reds at Anfield. Interestingly, Robertson seems to have answered back to suggest he is going nowhere this month.
Andy Robertson is ‘home’ at Liverpool
As journalist Lewis Steele noted on X at full-time, Robertson spent a few extra moments in front of the Kop after Wednesday’s victory.
“Andy Robertson lapping up the Kop chanting his name,” posted the reporter, alongside a video of the 31-year-old applauding fans from a relative distance.

Although this could be taken in some quarters as a potential goodbye, it feels as though Robertson would be a little more animated if he truly was saying a farewell.
Following his moment with the Kop, the Scotland captain then took to Instagram to post a one-word message which, given the context, seems extremely important.
“Home,” Robertson wrote, alongside a heart emoji and a picture of him giving a thumbs up to supporters while tapping his chest.

Again, the image chosen could be taken as a farewell by some, but the suggestion that Robertson is home at Liverpool is a strong one, and we’re choosing to believe that he is now staying.
Robertson will surely play for Liverpool again
Liverpool supporters will not have to wait long to find out whether Robertson will indeed play for their club again.
Saturday’s fixture against Newcastle is already fast-approaching, and arrives only two days before the closing of the transfer window.
If Robertson is to leave, then Saturday will well and truly be his last game for Liverpool. He could of course be gone before then, but it seems unlikely that will happen from here.
Taking everything into account, it looks more likely that Robertson will stay with the Reds before departing on a free transfer. Given his desire for more playing time and Liverpool’s need to keep him this month, that will surely work for everyone.
In the meantime it would be nice to see Robertson knuckle down and really be himself in the coming months. There has been a strange feeling around his potential move to Spurs which has not resonated with Liverpool supporters’ image of the left-back. The time to say goodbye will come, but this is surely not it.
