Manager casts doubt over Liverpool transfer

Liverpool loan exits are set to gather speed this week. Keyrol Figueroa leads the outbound movement, with the 19-year-old USA youth international expected to sign a new contract at Anfield before departing on loan to a League One or League Two club. The prolific striker has netted 11 goals in just 12 Premier League 2 appearances this season.

Wales international Lewis Koumas is undergoing a medical at Hull City after his disappointing Birmingham City loan was terminated early. The 20-year-old managed just one goal in 25 appearances for the Blues and started only seven Championship matches.

Meanwhile, Turkish giants Besiktas have made an ambitious approach for Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas, who is currently on a season-long loan at Roma. However, the deal faces significant obstacles. Roma will only sanction Tsimikas’s exit if they secure a replacement first, while the player himself has rejected the Turkish move, making clear he would only leave Rome to return to Liverpool. With Andy Robertson now expected to remain at Anfield, Tsimikas’s immediate future remains uncertain.

League One leaders Cardiff City are leading the chase for left-back Calum Scanlon, who has returned to full fitness after a season-ending injury at Millwall last year. However Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphey has now cast doubt over the deal:

Quizzed directly whether Scanlon was on his radar, Barry-Murphy said as quoted by Wales Online: “Obviously I know Calum from Liverpool, but it’s getting late in the window.”

“While we’ve been pretty transparent about areas of the squad that we need to improve, when it gets this late we can’t have any guarantees or certainty that anybody will come to the club before the window shuts on Monday.”

Cardiff’s strong reputation for developing young loan talent has positioned them as frontrunners, though several Championship clubs have also registered interest.
