FSG already identified the perfect right-back signing at Liverpool, he'd fix two problems at once - opinion

Jeremie Frimpong was injured during Liverpool’s 6-0 win over Qarabag in midweek.

The Dutchman limped off in the first half, meaning Wataru Endo had to cover at right-back.

Arne Slot was already very light on defensive options after losing Joe Gomez to injury last week.

Gomez and Ibrahima Konate both missed Wednesday’s fixture, while Conor Bradley is also out for the remainder of the season.

It means that going into the Newcastle United fixture, Liverpool don’t have a single right-back option to call upon, and will likely have to play a midfielder out of position.

Who should be Liverpool’s starting right-back now Jeremie Frimpong is injured?

He could be missing for some time…

Liverpool have already found a ‘good’ right-back

After Frimpong’s injury, Fabrizio Romano shared a Liverpool transfer update.

He said: “What I can tell you is that Liverpool already assessed potential options at right-back when Conor Bradley suffered his injury against Arsenal, and at that time Liverpool felt in the market there were no good right-backs to sign in this January transfer window.”

However, the perfect option is out there, and it is a player Liverpool have already looked at.

That man is Arsenal defender Ben White, who could not only cover at right-back but also provide some much-needed depth at centre-back as well.

Ben Jacobs said earlier this month: “I’m not aware that he’s overly agitating to leave, but by the same token, if the right offer arrives, I think that you’ll find both Benjamin White and Arsenal have a conversation.”

Meanwhile, when speaking on The Red Agenda Podcast in 2021, James Pearce said Liverpool were big fans of White, who was at Brighton at the time.

Ben White to Arsenal is a no-brainer.

More recently, following the injury to Bradley, Liverpool were told they’d benefit from signing White.

The versatile defender has made 18 appearances under Mikel Arteta this season, but he has been used in a fringe role.

White has played less than 500 minutes of Premier League football this term and as Jacobs suggested, it could be the case that he’s open to a move.

If all parties are willing, it seems like such a no-brainer signing for the Reds.

The 28-year-old has vast Premier League experience and, most importantly, could be a long-term centre-back option.
