Man City are set to see one of their players leave before the end of the January transfer window.
It has been a busy window for Pep Guardiola, as his side are fully embroiled in a Premier League title fight with Arsenal, but they also managed to make some seriously impressive signings.
Their January business could save their season, and it seems as though they might not be done yet, with regard to exits or potential signings.
Oscar Bobb set for Fulham medical
Firstly, there looks to be an exit from the Etihad, as winger Oscar Bobb has a medical booked to complete his move to Fulham. According to Sky Sports, a fee of £27m has been agreed between Man City and the Cottagers. It is understood that the deal includes a 20% sell-on clause for the Norwegian international too.
There is no doubting Bobb’s talent, but Man City adding Semenyo really reduced his role in Guardiola’s team, so it is only fair that they let him walk. The 22-year-old has been at Man City since 2019, when he joined from Norwegian side Valerenga. He’s made 47 appearances for the first team, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
Bobb will be the first major exit for a Man City player this window, as they try to stay on the right side of the PSR rules, but based on recent transfer rumours, or the lack thereof, Bobb could be the only Man City player that leaves during the January window.
City eye West Ham star to replace Bernardo Silva
One dilemma that Man City have is that Bernardo Silva is out of contract at the end of the season, and no reports have indicated that they intend to extend his deal at the Etihad. So, it looks as though the City captain will leave on a free at the end of the season, which means he’ll need replacing.
There is no doubt that the Cityzens will have an ever-growing shortlist of replacements for the Portuguese midfielder, and one name has emerged in the last few days. According to Football Insider, Man City are eyeing up a move to sign West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes as a replacement for Silva.
The report says that West Ham have no intention of selling the 21-year-old before the end of the January window, as they battle against relegation to the Championship, but a sale in the summer could be possible. The Portuguese star has made 25 appearances for the Hammers this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
From a selfish point of view, the Cityzens would hope West Ham do suffer relegation, because that would drive Fernandes’ price down. But either way, they paid £42m for him from Southampton in August, so he could cost closer to £50m in the summer.
