Former Chelsea player is 'becoming the best in the world' after Mauricio Pochettino sold him

Chelsea have made their fair share of transfer mistakes in the past, and it looks like there may just be another one.

The January transfer window is about to close and Chelsea seem no closer to making their first signing of the window, despite weeks of talks.

However, the results have been positive on the field, which has perhaps lifted some of the pressure off the Chelsea owners to deliver during the January window.

Aaron Anselmino has been recalled from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, which lightens the load on a potential deal for Jeremy Jacquet going through this month.

Talks are ongoing with Jacquet, but this month, a deal seems unlikely unless Chelsea pays the big fee.

But what Chelsea doesn’t want to do is miss out on the defender.

Dan Burn claims Lewis Hall is becoming one of the world’s best

Lewis Hall joined Newcastle United for around £28 million after a loan spell.

That move looks to be one of regret for Chelsea, as he’s gone from strength to strength at St James’ Park, and he’s only 21 years of age.

Dan Burn is delighted to have him as a teammate. He claimed he’s growing into one of the best in the world when talking to the Adopted Geordies podcast.

“I know I can play that position (left-back) I don’t play anywhere in the same world as Lewis Hall plays that position.”

“He’s becoming the best in the world though,” The interviewer said.

“Yeah (he is), he’s class. He is good. I think we’re so dynamic when he plays and stuff, that ability to go forward.”

Lewis Hall’s comparison to Marc Cucurella

Marc Cucurella has recorded significantly more game time with 1,709 minutes compared to Lewis Hall’s 1,122 at Newcastle.

The Spaniard Cucurella currently has a slightly higher pass accuracy of 87% and leads on the creative side of things with 17 chances created, placing him among the best full-backs in the Premier League.

Lewis Hall remains the more explosive offensive threat with a superior 68.4% dribble success rate and a high volume of recoveries, but Cucurella’s defensive dominance is clear. He’s won a massive 81% of his defensive duels and completed 39 tackles.

So it depends on what you’re looking for in a defender. Whether you want someone more attack-minded or someone who is going to ensure defensive solidity.
