This season, when Luke Kennard shoots, you're particularly surprised if it misses.
That's the kind of shooting season that the Atlanta Hawks' lefty guard is having. In fact, there's a case to be made that he's having the best shooting campaign in NBA history.
Really? How's that possible?
Well, his line of 53.7% from the floor, 49.3% from 3-point range and 93.8% from the foul line has never been matched before, according to Underdog Sports. Those stats were before a slightly quiet night Wednesday, so Kennard will have to push his numbers back upward again to keep chasing this history.

Clearly, players have shot higher from the field before, and even very occasionally better from 3, but not at the same time, and especially not at the same time as Kennard's incredibly high free throw percentage.
Luke Kennard may be having the best shooting season in NBA History

Kennard isn't doing it on incredibly high volume. He's only averaging 7.9 points per game.
He's attempting 5.2 field goals per game, which include 3.3 attempted 3-pointers per game.
He's also shooting less than one foul shot per night.

So the case against Kennard is simple: He's not shooting all that much.
But the case for him is that when he shoots, the ball is going in the basket.
That is the objective of basketball is to put the ball in the hoop, and Kennard is doing that.
We'll revisit this at the end of the season, when all the dust has settled.
But right now, Kennard is having a special season.
