Liam Rosenior spoke to the media after Chelsea beat Napoli last night, and was asked what he made of the phenomenon of five Premier League teams being among the top eight in the final Champions League table.
Even teams like Spurs, who are really struggling this year, have done much better in Europe, showing how the vast wealth of the Premier League is making it difficult to compete with for teams from other nations.
Diplomatic Rosenior points to strong leagues across Europe

“The Premier League is very strong, I’ve come from a very strong league where I was working a month ago in Ligue 1, it’s a fantastic league. All through Europe there are really, really good leagues. But we know that whichever team we face in the Champions League, wherever they’re from, it’s going to be a difficult game.
“We just need to keep going with our season and see who we get in the next round.”
It’s the right attitude, and of course there’s no reason to diminish other leagues, but he doesn’t need to be quite so diplomatic all the time. There are 5 Premier League teams in the top 8 and just 1 Ligue 1 team. That’s the objective evidence you need right now that shows the difference between them right now.

Loved that he knew the game plan wasn’t working and changed it. Managers can make tactical mistakes but it’s learning from them and adapting in a game. pic.twitter.com/xLuW3806lf

Speaking to the media at full time, Rosenior revealed what he had done tactically at half time to adjust his team and help them earn a vital 3-2 win away from home.
Rosenior’s discussion about Cole Palmer’s second half appearance gives some major clues about whether we can expect to see the attacker this weekend when we take on West Ham.
