Jurgen Klopp officially returns to Anfield

Jurgen Klopp has spent the last few weeks denying Real Madrid links after Xabi Alonso was sacked at the beginning of the month. The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss has been consistent in his messaging since departing Anfield in May 2024. He stepped away from management citing a need to recharge after nearly 25 years on the sidelines, taking up his Red Bull position on 1 January 2025.

Despite the repeated denials, Spanish media outlets refused to let the story die. There were even some wild reports that Klopp had “contacted” former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold to gauge the atmosphere in Real Madrid’s dressing room, and that the German “would give serious consideration” to any approach from Los Blancos.

However, it’s looking clear that Jurgen Klopp and Real Madrid links are just that – media speculation.

But Reds fans can still look forward to seeing the German in the dugout, just not for another club.

Liverpool FC has officially confirmed that Jurgen Klopp will return to Anfield later this year. The club has confirmed that the Anfield legend will return as assistant manager to Sir Kenny Dalglish for the upcoming Liverpool Legends charity match vs their Borussia Dortmund counterparts in March:

“Jürgen Klopp has joined the Liverpool FC Legends management team for the upcoming game against Borussia Dortmund Legends,” a Liverpool statement read.

“Klopp will return to the Anfield dugout to assist manager Sir Kenny Dalglish for the charity match, presented by AXA and in association with Forever Reds, on Saturday March 28 (3pm GMT kick-off).”

“Dalglish and Klopp will be joined on the touchline by LFC ambassador Ian Rush and Forever Reds chair John Aldridge.”

The Legends fixture will raise funds for multiple causes. One hundred percent of proceeds will support the LFC Foundation’s employability programmes, which help people across the Liverpool City Region find work, gain qualifications and develop new skills.

Steven Gerrard, Samy Hyypia, Jerzey Dudek, and Pepe Reina are just some of the icons already confirmed for the game, with further player announcements expected in the coming weeks.
