Journalist claims Celtic transfer target Stefan Ortega could leave Manchester City before…

Celtic have many issues with their squad right now.

The powers that be at Celtic, including Martin O’Neill, are trying to fix those issues via the January transfer market.

One issue that, more than likely, won’t be resolved or looked at until the summer is the goalkeeping department, as Stefan Ortega has been linked with Celtic.

But by the time the Hoops make their call on the Manchester City shot-stopper, he could already be at his new club.

Should Celtic prioritise replacing Kasper Schmeichel in the transfer window?

Stefan Ortega is expected to leave Manchester City

It’s the final few days of the January transfer window, and clubs are scrambling to secure some last-minute deals and fine-tune their squads for the crunch months of the campaign – unless you are the champions of Scotland, of course!

Florian Plettenberg has suggested on social media that Ortega ‘could leave Manchester City before the deadline.’

But it seems as though it won’t be to Celtic, despite those past links, as he stated that ‘concrete talks’ are on-going with Ortega and clubs in England, Spain and Italy.

Kasper Schmeichel can’t be Celtic’s number one next season

Kasper Schmeichel was brilliant against Hearts last time out, but you have to look at the overall picture and the troubles Celtic’s number one has caused.

The Denmark international has been far too error-prone, as was proven during Wilfried Nancy’s last match when the Bhoys were beaten by Rangers.

Come the summer, Schmeichel will be out of contract at Parkhead, and he shouldn’t be given a new deal; the club should move on.

If that’s bringing in a new keeper via the transfer market, then so be it. Ortega would be fantastic, but he might be elsewhere by then.

But Viljami Sinisalo has proven that he is ready to be handed a regular shot and become the main man.
