Jurgen Klopp set to return to Liverpool with new job alongside club legend

Jurgen Klopp will return to the Liverpool dugout to face one of his former clubs in a charity match later this year.

The former Reds boss has been confirmed as an assistant manager for the match between Liverpool Legends and Borussia Dortmund Legends.

Klopp will join Sir Kenny Dalglish on the touchline alongside fellow club legends Ian Rush and John Aldridge.

The match will be played at Anfield on Saturday, March 28, to raise money for the LFC Foundation.

As the club's official charity partner, the organisation named Klopp as an honorary ambassador after stepping down as manager in 2024.

Liverpool and Dortmund share several connections which have been formed across their storied histories.

Among them are the traditional renditions of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by home supporters before their matches.

Meanwhile, the meeting of their Legends sides comes ahead of the 10-year anniversary of a dramatic Europa League quarter-final clash.

Liverpool advanced 5-4 on aggregate in April 2016 on their way to reaching the final of the competition.

Klopp, who was in his first season as manager, saw his side fall two goals behind twice during the second leg at home.

However, Dejan Lovren's stoppage time winner secured their place in the semi-finals at Dortmund's expense.

Liverpool would ultimately lose to Spanish side Sevilla in the final later that season.

The German is now set to return to Anfield for a meeting between former players from two of his old clubs.

Klopp spent nine years as Liverpool boss before his decision to leave at the end of the 2023/24 season.

During that time, he won eight trophies including ending the club's 30-year wait for a league title.

The Reds also lifted the Champions League and Club World Cup during Klopp's tenure.

Meanwhile, they reached two further Champions League finals in 2018 and 2022, losing to Real Madrid on both occasions.

Prior to arriving on Merseyside, Klopp had spent seven years as Dortmund manager between 2008 and 2015.

The German giants won back-to-back Bundesliga titles under his management, with the second being part of a league and cup double.

As well as those triumphs, Klopp won two German Super Cups and reached the 2013 Champions League final.
