Retired NBA player Lamar Odom has checked into a rehabilitation facility following his arrest for driving under the influence on Jan. 17 in Las Vegas. The 46-year-old former Lakers star entered a 30-day treatment program at iRely Recovery, his manager Gina Rodriguez said.
“After a recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address triggers he’s been dealing with,” Rodriguez told Page Six. “He’s taking full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his wellbeing.”
Rodriguez said Odom made the personal decision to enter treatment to “reset and focus on his health.” She added that “Lamar is grateful for the support and is committed to moving forward in a healthy, positive way.”
Odom is seeking to quit using marijuana because he fears it could lead him back to harder substances, his manager told TMZ. In addition to the DUI charge, Odom faces two traffic violations for allegedly driving more than 41 mph over the speed limit and for an improper lane change, according to Page Six.
The arrest marks another chapter in Odom’s ongoing battle with addiction.
In October 2015, he survived a near-fatal drug overdose after being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel, Page Six noted. Odom later claimed he did not willingly take drugs and believed they were “slipped into” his drink.
Following that incident, his then-wife Khloé Kardashian temporarily paused their divorce proceedings to care for him while he was in a coma. The couple had filed for divorce in 2013.
In 2021, Odom told “Good Morning America” he was using supervised small doses of ketamine to stay sober.
