Aston Villa will be hoping to keep hold of their key man for as long as possible amid attention from elsewhere
Aston Villa return to Europa League action on Thursday night at home to Red Bull Salzburg. They then face Brentford at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday. Unai Emery’s side remain in the mix for the league title this season after 23 fixtures.
They are sat in 3rd place in the table behind Arsenal and Manchester City. The Midlands outfit won 2-0 away at Newcastle United last time out. Emi Buendia and Ollie Watkins got their goals against the Magpies in the North East.
Liverpool admirers of Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers
Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers is someone who Liverpool ‘appreciate’, says reporter Ben Jacobs. Chelsea have recently been linked with a big money bid. The Reds could launch a swoop for the attacker at some point down the line and they are in the hunt for a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is out of contract in 2027.
Journalist Jacobs has said, via GiveMeSport: “Suggestions (Adam) Wharton has already agreed a five-year deal with Liverpool are wide of the mark. Liverpool's priorities lie elsewhere both in terms of targets and positions. I sense if a midfielder is to arrive at Anfield this year, it will more likely be one with goals output who can also play in wide areas. Morgan Rogers is the type of profile some within Liverpool appreciate.”
Rogers, 23, is tied down at Aston Villa until 2031. Therefore, they are under no immediate pressure to cash in on him anytime soon. They won’t want to lose him, especially to a league rival like Liverpool.
Aston Villa won’t want to lose Morgan Rogers amid Liverpool attention
Aston Villa signed Rogers back in 2024 and he has since become one of their most prized assets. He has made 102 appearances in all competitions and has scored 25 goals, eight of which have come in this campaign. The England international has made 12 caps for the Three Lions to date and is eyeing a place in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup this summer.
After penning a new deal last year, he said: “I’m so happy. The faith from the people at the club is a really nice feeling, and I couldn’t wait to sign. I’m really happy.”
He added: “It’s home. Being from the area makes it that bit sweeter, but the manager, the players, the staff, everyone here is so warm and welcoming every day. I’m excited to come in and train, work hard and give my all every day. I really enjoy it. The most important thing for me is enjoying my football and being able to express myself. There’s no reason why I wouldn’t want to stay here.
“We’ve come a long way in such a short space of time but we’ve got ability, the players and definitely the staff and the manager as well, so we can’t see why not. It gets harder each year and each team gets better and better and the league gets harder and harder, but we’re getting better with that as well.”
Rogers started out at West Brom before Manchester City came calling as a youngster. He was loaned out away from the Etihad Stadium to Lincoln City, AFC Bournemouth and Blackpool to get some experience under his belt. Middlesbrough then snapped him up permanently before Aston Villa swooped in and he hasn’t looked back since amid fresh attention from Liverpool now.
