REPORT: Arsenal 'Open Negotiations' With UCL Club Over "Immaculate" Midfielder's January Exit

Arsenal are reportedly in negotiations with Ajax over selling one of their players in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are yet to make any signings in January, and they aren’t expected to make any major additions before the deadline on Monday night. However, they have already seen a couple of exits.

Ethan Nwaneri joined Marseille on loan for the remainder of the season, before Oleksandr Zinchenko’s loan at Nottingham Forest was cancelled, and he’s now joined Dutch giants Ajax.

However, fresh reports suggest that Zinchenko may not be the only Arsenal star to leave for the Eredivisie giants. The Dutch club are reportedly interested in signing a player who Mikel Arteta signed last summer.

Arsenal exit could be close for Christian Norgaard

The Gunners signed Christian Norgaard from Brentford in the summer, for just £15m. He was meant to be the replacement for Thomas Partey, as an experienced holding midfielder, who was always going to play second fiddle to Martin Zubimendi anyway.

But, Norgaard has hardly played for the Gunners this season, especially in the Premier League. He’s made just three Premier League appearances for Arsenal, and four in the Champions League. Despite that, he’s a player that Arteta loves. The Arsenal boss said last year: “[Christian Norgaard] probably prepares the best of all of them.

“Somebody who makes all of us better every single day. Play in any position, any condition, more or less minutes, but his attitude is always immaculate.”

According to TeamTalk, Norgaard could already be on his way out, as Arsenal and Ajax have ‘opened negotiations’ over a deal for the Danish international. It is claimed that the Gunners would prefer a permanent transfer, and that Norgaard is open to leaving as he searches for more game time, before he begins to wind down his career.

Could any more Gunners leave in January?

The simple answer is that it is unlikely. If Arsenal do sanction any exits other than Norgaard, then they will more likely be loan deals for younger players rather than permanent sales.

Myles Lewis-Skelly seems an obvious choice, as he isn’t getting the game time that he wants at the Emirates this season, due to the impressive form of Riccardo Calafiori. But it is understood that Arsenal want to keep hold of him, and aren’t interested in sending him out on loan.
