Liverpool thrashed Qarabag on Wednesday to secure a place in the Champions League last 16, with Arne Slot encouraged by a return to free-flowing attacking football.

Alexis Mac Allister scored twice at Anfield, while Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa were also on target. However, the night was not without concern as Jeremie Frimpong was forced off injured, continuing his fitness struggles in his debut season in England.

Despite calls for January reinforcements, Slot has played down the prospect of new signings ahead of the February 2 deadline. Defensive additions remain a talking point, though Marc Guehi is no longer an option after his move to Manchester City.

Liverpool FC Women have been active in the transfer window, strengthening their squad while also sending several players out on loan. Forward Leanne Kiernan has joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The Republic of Ireland international has racked up seven appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this term, having joined the Reds from West Ham United in 2021 and signed a new contract ahead of the current campaign.

Kiernan now links up with Forest, who face Birmingham City on Sunday, February 1. Upon signing, she said: “I’m really pleased to have joined Nottingham Forest. I can’t wait to get started with this team and begin playing with this talented group of players.”

Nottingham Forest Women Head Coach, Carly Davies, said: “We are delighted to have Leanne join the Club for the remainder of the season from Liverpool. Leanne is a player with proven quality at the highest level both on the domestic and international level.

“She brings a wealth of experience in this league, having won the division with Liverpool in 2021/22. She will bring a new dynamic to our attacking threat, and we are excited to see her play in the Garibaldi Red.”
