Reading officially sign Liverpool midfielder

With just days remaining before the transfer window slams shut, there is still scope for several major deals to be completed ahead of deadline day.

Arsenal may be well placed in the Premier League title race, but reports suggest the club have entered negotiations with Ajax over a deal that would see Christian Norgaard move to the Johan Cruyff Arena. The development comes as a surprise, given the midfielder only joined the Gunners during the summer window.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are facing a shortage of defensive options. Arne Slot was left with just one recognised senior centre-back available for the Champions League clash against Qarabag, making it no surprise that the Reds are reportedly monitoring Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano as a potential option before the window closes.

Reading Football Club have confirmed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Scofield Lonmeni-Dekam. The youngster featured regularly for Liverpool’s U18 side during the 2024/25 season as a first-year scholar.

Primarily deployed as a deep-lying central midfielder, Lonmeni-Dekam has also operated at full-back and on the wing. He racked up 19 appearances in the U18 Premier League and scored once, while also representing the Reds in both the UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup. Lonmeni-Dekam joined Liverpool at Under-14 level. He made a total of 28 appearances for the Reds at the youth level.

A club statement read: “Reading Football Club are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of 18-year-old midfielder Scofield Lonmeni-Dekam for an undisclosed fee.

“Scofield has spent time with the club on a work experience agreement, featuring regularly for Harrison Gilkes’ Under-18s as they progressed to the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

“Following a successful spell in Berkshire, the midfielder has now joined the Royals on a permanent basis, signing his first professional contract. A combative midfielder with an impressive pedigree, Scofield arrives after making 28 appearances for Liverpool at youth level, including outings in the UEFA Youth League. Welcome to Reading, Scofield!”
