It feels like an age since Arne Slot was lifting the Premier League title above his head as Liverpool manager.
Liverpool’s form has been on the decline for some time, with a case certainly there that the Reds were declining from March 2025.
Their displays in the league dropped off dramatically and after their Champions League exit to PSG, they also lost to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

Meanwhile, fans have been calling for Slot to be replaced since the first half of 2025/26 when Liverpool were on a run of nine defeats from 12.

Results technically improved with a 13-game unbeaten streak, but many of those matches were draws against teams Liverpool should be beating, like Burnley and Fulham.
Most recently, the Reds lost 3-2 to Bournemouth, who had won just one of their previous 13 league ties.
After that result, there has once again been talk about Slot leaving Liverpool in 2026.

Whether FSG will act remains to be seen, but Paul Scholes feels one factor is not helping the Dutchman.
Speaking on The Overlap, various former players, including Scholes and Jamie Carragher (he was phoned by Gary Neville), were discussing Slot and how he’s now being viewed/treated by many fans.
And Scholes suggested the fact that Xabi Alonso is now available is not helping the situation
He said: “Having Alonso there won’t help will it?” To which Carragher responded: “That probably doesn’t help.”

When does Arne Slot’s Liverpool situation become untenable
In Europe, the Merseyside outfit have been better, discounting that 4-1 loss to PSV in November.
But the Premier League is where Slot and the club are really struggling.
They have now slipped out of the Champions League places, with just three points separating them and 11th-place Sunderland.
Liverpool now face Newcastle United, Manchester City and Sunderland in their next three matches, all of which are tough games.
If the Reds were to lose all three ties, which is more than possible based on their 2026 form, they could fall out of the Champions League race, and that would surely cause FSG to consider their options.
