Joe Cole still isn't over Chelsea letting'outstanding'player leave in the summer

Chelsea had a bit of an overhaul during the summer transfer window, allowing 17 players to leave the club permanently.

The Blues have never been afraid to make strong decisions, as was seen when Enzo Maresca decided to create the ‘bomb squad’ during his time at Chelsea.

Putting a long-term servant of the club, Raheem Sterling, in that mix didn’t go down well with the player, but it’s these kind of decisions that have to be made.

And Chelsea have now made a huge saving on Sterling’s wages after reaching an agreement over his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea made almost £300 million selling players like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Joao Felix in the summer, who have both gone on to impress at their new clubs.

But there’s one player whose exit didn’t sit well with Joe Cole.

Joe Cole is gutted Noni Madueke left Chelsea for Arsenal

Noni Madueke was in and out of the Chelsea side, struggling for any kind of consistency under Enzo Maresca, which led to his departure for almost £50 million.

However, his early days at Arsenal made it look as if Chelsea may have made a mistake, but Madueke has now gone over a year without scoring a Premier League goal.

This hasn’t changed Joe Cole’s opinion on him though.

Speaking on TNT Sports, he still feels as if Madueke leaving Chelsea was gutting.

“I was gutted to see Noni leave Chelsea. He gets you off your feet, he can go both ways, he’s capable of that. I think the thing that frustrated the fans, though he’s still a young man, it wasn’t regular enough.

“He’s gone to Arsenal and I think he’s thrived with competition, got Saka in front of him. I think he’s an outstanding player, I was gutted to see him leave Chelsea, but he’s doing well.”

Noni Madueke’s stat comparison between Arsenal and Chelsea

Noni Madueke recorded significantly higher contributions during his final full season at Chelsea, finishing the 2024/25 campaign with 11 goals and 5 assists across all competitions.

Since his move to Arsenal, Madueke has taken on a more tactical role as a rotation option for Bukayo Saka. But this hasn’t helped him, having recorded zero goals and zero assists in 13 league appearances.

However, despite the lack of domestic goals, he has found success in the Champions League, notably scoring three goals in what is a different system at Arsenal.

Overall, it looks as if Chelsea got the better end of the deal right now.
