Report: Chelsea feel they have got a bargain with £55m signing, he is now an £87m-rated player

Chelsea’s transfer policy continues to be both the envy and a point of criticism from others, with Todd Boehly’s trigger-finger approach deemed more business-like than tactical.

Chelsea continue to spend on a regular basis on players that perhaps the club doesn’t actually need. But, Boehly continues to put his money where his mouth is, investing in players who have a resale value.

It does feel at times that players are seen more as commodities than human beings, but this is the era of football that we’re in. Ultimately, Boehly and Chelsea are seeing success in their big turnover model.

Last summer, Chelsea spent almost £300m on 10 new signings but raked in almost as much in player sales. In terms of players currently in the first team, there are a handful seen as real value for money.

Chelsea feel they have a bargain with player that cost £55m

Cole Palmer is probably the best bit of business in the current Chelsea side. Costing less than £50m, Palmer has gone on to become one of Europe’s best players, and obviously, one of Chelsea’s best.

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are both key players, but both players cost over £100m so it might be fair to say they are on a par. Some are yet to prove their fees, like Jamie Gittens or Jorrel Hato.

But one player has certainly proven he is a bargain. Signed for an initial £55m from Brighton, Joao Pedro single-handedly won back his transfer fee with a stunning brace to beat Napoli as Chelsea won 3-2.

That’s 11 goals for the season now, and four assists. The Brazilian is clearly Rosenior’s first-choice striker and Wednesday night proved why. The Mail say Chelsea feel Pedro, at £60m with add-ons, is a bargain.

How much do the stats suggest Joao Pedro is worth now

According to reliable stats guru CIES Football Observatory, Pedro is worth a whopping £87m as things stand. Perhaps, given he has become a regular for Brazil and is scoring goals in the Champions League.

Chelsea are known to spend big, but that doesn’t mean they overpay to get the players they want. They target players that can grow and in Pedro’s case, they have themselves a real gem as things stand.

If Pedro is already worth £27m more than his transfer fee and £32m more than Chelsea’s initial outlay, then it is proof that Chelsea have got themselves a real bargain. That fee will only continue to rise.
