Spurs Forward Accepts Slam Dunk Contest Invitation

Carter Bryant, San Antonio Spurs

During his lone year at Arizona, Carter Bryant had some flashes of being a very good basketball player. He was the #20 ranked player from his high school class. Bryant only stayed in college for the one year, averaging nearly seven points per game as a primary reserve.

Selected #14 by the San Antonio Spurs on this past June’s draft, he’s logged 37 games during his rookie campaign so far. He wasn’t selected for the Rising Stars event, but did get selected, per Shams Charania, for the Slam Dunk Contest.

A nice long dunk reel of Bryant from his time with the Wildcats should be enough to produce excitement about his foray into the All-Star Weekend contest. This is a dunk maestro, who’ll be ready to turn a few heads for sure.

Let’s talk more about Bryant, and what folks can expect from the 6’6 wing.

Carter Bryant Ready for Dunk Contest

Carter Bryant is now one of five Spurs players that will be at All-Star Weekend. In the Rising Stars event, David Jones Garcia, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper will be competing. Victor Wembanyama will be in the All-Star Game. Pretty impressive for an organization on the rise once again.

Bryant is no stranger to live above the rim. In the video below from the Spurs reddit channel, he can be seen working on some big jams. Though the initial one was a miss, the flashed potential was clear as day.

If you want to see Bryant absolutely putting on posters, check below. This is absolutely somebody that can rise up and let that thing down. Bryant is a supremely athletic wing, and it was not the statistical production that landed him as a lottery pick. It was the fact that he can jump out of the gym and use his athleticism to make things happen.

Since San Antonio has so much depth at the moment, minutes have been limited. Still, it’s been clear as day that Bryant has all the potential. The dunks have been fantastic to see, while the all-around game continues to percolate.

Bryant and LA’s Jaxson Hayes are the only two confirmed for the Slam Dunk Contest so far. Two more players will still need to get in there for the list to become final.

Spurs Forward Ready for the Spotlight

Carter Bryant averaged just under 20 minutes per game during his season at Arizona. It came as no surprise that as March Madness went on, he got more run. He was playing roughly 27 minutes out of 40 per night for the Arizona Wildcats. It was tough for the team to have him off the floor.

Watching Keldon Johnson blossom into a sixth man of the year candidate and Julian Champagnie improve even more has been a marvel. The only issue with that for Bryant’s sake, is that all of his minutes have been going that way.

Veteran Harrison Barnes holding down the SF spot while Devin Vassell has missed time has also added even more depth and versatility to what they already have.

The #2 team in the West, it appears the Spurs have the potential to win the Western Conference. Bryant may have to wait a bit for those opportunities, but he’ll be ready to jam in the dunk contest. A player built for the spotlight, we’ll see just how creative he can be.
