For many years, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski – perhaps better known as simply “Woj” by many – was the most high-profile sports insider in the industry. Wojnarowski is now retired from his career as an insider, but he still has a massive following and he had a message for his followers this week.
Over the weekend, 37-year-old Alex Pretti was shot and killed by a border patrol agent in Minneapolis, marking the second time this month that a federally appointed agent had shot and killed an American citizen in the city after Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed in her car earlier this month.
The news sparked widespread reactions from the sports community. WNBA superstar Breanna Stewart held a sign that read “Abolish ICE” during player introductions before an Unrivaled game, and NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama refused to stay silent on the issue during a recent press conference.
Additionally, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr offered some candid comments on Renee Nicole Good’s death earlier this month, and he followed that up with some strong words on the latest shooting and the state of the media on Sunday. Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers called Good’s death “straight-up murder.”
Like these other sports figures, Woj used his platform to speak out on the issues, as well.
“Stand up to fascism,” Wojnarowski wrote in a post on Threads over the weekend.
Wojnarowski retired from ESPN in September 2024 to become the General Manager for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team, his alma mater.
At St. Bonaventure, Woj manages NIL opportunities, player recruitment, the transfer portal, and program fundraising. And he clearly is not shy about sharing his beliefs, either.
