And Maher is eager to make it through to the final eight of the competition.

“This is a competition we want to do well in, there’s no doubt about that,” said Maher.

“We tasted Wembley last year and we want more of that.

“This is an opportunity and you have to take them because you don’t get too many in your careers.”

The Shrimpers go into the game looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at table-topping Rochdale.

And Maher will pick what he believes is the best possible starting line-up after a busy run of games.

“We’ll have to look at injuries, who is available and who is fresh and ready to go,” said Maher.

“We’ll pick the best team.

“We made changes the other night and those who came in did ever so well.

“It shows the quality is there and no matter who plays there’s no real drop-off.

“We’ll sit down and look at what minutes people will have.

“We’ll look at who we feel might benefit from coming in and who has been really at it in training.

“We’ll go that way but I’ll never weaken the team.”
