Franz Wagner discloses 'super frustrating' lingering injury since Berlin Game return

The Magic star admitted that he returned way too early from his nagging left ankle sprain.

Star forward Franz Wagner is set to miss his fifth consecutive game for the Orlando Magic due to his ankle injury.

Mainly, it's "super frustrating" for him that his injury still lingers, and that he returned way too early from his left high ankle sprain recovery.

“Definitely not where I want it to be to play, and to play consistently,” Wagner said, per Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel. “It’s consistently (that) is the big thing. Obviously I really wanted to play in Berlin but probably wasn’t ready for that yet. So, yeah, tough situation just looking back, but definitely still got a little bit to go.”

Wagner notably sustained his ankle sprain way back on Dec. 7 against the New York Knicks. He went on to miss 16 consecutive games for Orlando.

As the NBA Berlin Game loomed, Wagner admitted he aimed to return as soon as possible to play in front of his countrymen. But that decision instantly backfired for him and the Magic.

After dropping 18 points and nine rebounds to help the Magic's 118-111 comeback win over the Grizzlies, Wagner admitted that he felt soreness in his ankle when they went on to London to cap off the Europe Games.

Now, he’s sidelined and inactive while managing his ankle sprain, as the Magic (24-22) deal with challenges without his presence this season.

Understanding his own lessons, the German forward is steadfast in letting himself fully recover from his awful ankle condition.

“I’m learning that it’s one of those things that can linger a little bit,” Wagner said. “So, I just want to make sure that once I get back, I’m really back, and don’t have to sit out a game here and feel good again.

“I want to be good for the rest of the year."
