Newcastle United latest news: Eddie Howe has a number of decisions to make when he names his team to face Liverpool on Saturday night.
Newcastle United head to Anfield on Saturday night (8pm kick-off) aiming to carry on the momentum from their spirited draw against Paris Saint-Germain.
Eddie Howe made five personnel changes to his starting XI on Wednesday night and changed his usual 4-3-3 formation to a 3-4-3 system with Dan Burn making his first start in over a month. Will that be something he again considers this weekend?
Howe still has a number of injury issues to contend with this weekend and won’t have any of Joelinton, Faian Schar or Tino Livramento available to him on Saturday night. However, there is hope that Bruno Guimaraes could be fit enough to feature after he was an unused substitute in Paris.
Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United starting XI that Howe could name for his side’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield.
Newcastle United predicted XI v Liverpool
Nick Pope
Pope saved his side from going behind in the first few minutes in Paris. He made a string of other saves to keep his side in the game and a similar performance will be needed at Anfield.
Malick Thiaw
Thiaw started shakily in midweek, but grew into the game and put in yet another very decent performance.
Sven Botman
Botman could be the key for Newcastle United’s hopes of victory on Saturday night. If he can keep Hugo Ekitike quiet, then the Magpies stand a chance of causing an upset at Anfield.

Dan Burn
Burn was simply brilliant in Paris on his first start in over a month. He and Lewis Hall managed to work well together to repel the threats of PSG down the left side and with Mohamed Salah to come up against this weekend, they will need to be at it once again.
Lewis Miley
People are beginning to run out of superlatives for Miley as he racked up yet another impressive performance against PSG. A wing-back role gives him the chance to influence the game in attacking areas.
Bruno Guimaraes
Guimaraes was rested in Paris and there is hope that he will be fit enough to feature at Anfield. Whilst Jacob Ramsey was good on Wednesday night, the Magpies are a different animal when Guimaraes is in the team.
Sandro Tonali
Tonali was back to his energetic best in midweek and will need to again put in a performance this weekend.
Lewis Hall
If Hall can contain Salah and also show his talents in attacking areas, then the Magpies have a chance of victory. Tino Livramento’s display in the Carabao Cup final, albeit as an orthodox left-back, is the blueprint for success.
Harvey Barnes
Although he didn’t get on the scoresheet, Barnes was a real threat on Wednesday night and against a Liverpool side that like to play with a high line, he could be a real asset for the Magpies on Saturday.
Yoane Wissa
Wissa would love to get his name on the scoresheet again and where better to do that than Anfield?
Anthony Gordon
Gordon will be out for revenge after his red card in the reverse fixture. His cameo in Paris reminded everyone just what a threat he can be against a high line.
