There has been much talk around the future of Arne Slot and the anger many Liverpool fans have about the 2025/26 season.
As far back as November, during a run of nine defeats in 12, supporters were calling for Slot to be replaced.
Mohamed Salah’s outburst then saw the message put out that FSG were still backing the Liverpool manager.

Since then, the Reds have gone on a 13-game unbeaten run, which was eventually ended last weekend with a 3-2 defeat to a Bournemouth side who had previously won one in 13.
After that match, talk about Slot leaving Liverpool emerged again, but those in a position of power at Anfield seem to be holding firm.
Liverpool are only going to get worse under Arne Slot, FSG aren’t helping
The Athletic journalist James Pearce shared an article on the Dutchman this week, which saw him write: “The Anfield hierarchy remain fully behind Arne Slot. No-one is content with #LFC’s domestic form and the next few months are huge, but there’s also understanding for what he’s had to contend with this season. There’s also a firm belief they will kick on.”
The last line is particularly odd, given there is zero evidence to suggest Liverpool will be able to ‘kick on’ under the 47-year-old.

Yes, results in Europe have been better of late, but as we saw post-Marseille, the Premier League is where the real issues are right now.
Jamie Carragher fears for Liverpool after they dropped out of the Champions League places and are still yet to win a single league fixture in 2026.

What now follows are three much tougher games against Newcastle United, Manchester City and Sunderland.
The thought of Liverpool ‘kicking on’ in any of these matches is honestly pretty fanciful.
Firstly, because we have seen no evidence that Slot actually has the ability to fix the issues Liverpool are facing in the Premier League.
But also because the problems in the Reds’ backline are only going to hamper them even further.
Slot has zero fit right-backs available right now, and it may well be the case that Virgil van Dijk is the only senior centre-back starting against Newcastle.
FSG should have already dipped into the market to sign a new defender this month, but as is their desire, they have decided to remain inactive.
Even if Liverpool were playing well in the league right now, they’d struggle to pick up wins against their upcoming opponents with so many issues at the back.
But given what we have seen from Slot and co. in the league of late prior to the losses of Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong, etc., the suggestion Liverpool could kick on anytime soon is odd.
