Arsenal could add to their squad before Monday's 7pm transfer deadline as they look to add depth for the second half of the season

There might be a bit of anxiety around Arsenal at the moment following last weekend’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United but the Gunners remain in a strong position as they continue to fight on four fronts.

Mikel Arteta’s side are four points clear at the top of the Premier League and ended their Champions League league phase campaign with eight wins from eight to top the 36-team table ahead of Bayern Munich, Liverpool and North London rivals Tottenham.

They remain in the FA Cup and are one step away from the Carabao Cup final. They lead their semi-final with Chelsea and just need a draw in their second-leg clash to advance to Wembley.

Their lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to four points following their loss to United and after a run of three games without a win, some supporters made their feelings known as they booed the team off the pitch on Sunday.

The title is still in Arsenal’s hands, however, as they travel to Leeds United this weekend while Manchester City head to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa host Brentford.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal could still make a signing before the transfer deadline on Monday. Premier League clubs will be given until 7pm on Monday to wrap up any deals. The deadline used to be much later into the evening but has been moved forward in recent years to stay in line with other major European leagues.

Overall, the Gunners are happy with their squad depth and strength after spending around £250m in the summer. They are, however, said to be monitoring the market for a young defender to add more depth and a signing could be made before Monday night if the right target is identified.

Arsenal will need to keep their squad fit for what is described as an ‘unforgiving schedule’ but the potential addition of a squad player in defence could ease any worries about dealing with squad management.

The former players have been on the fringes for Arsenal this campaign but the Gunners are reluctant to let anymore players leave before the deadline after already sanctioning a loan exit for Ethan Nwaneri.

Speaking earlier this week, Norgaard said ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League win: “I’m really, really happy here and the messages I get from the club is that they’re really happy with me as well.

“I would obviously love to play more minutes, but the minutes I’ve had so far I’ve really enjoyed.

“Also, in the competition we’re playing in tomorrow, I’ve had a few games, and for me it’s the first run in the Champions League, so it’s been amazing. Even though I’m not playing as much, I still try to contribute with everything I can around the group.”
