Liverpool team news ahead of the Premier League fixture against Newcastle United at Anfield.
Arne Slot has provided a Liverpool team news update ahead of the Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
The Reds head into the encounter sitting sixth in the table after a 3-2 defeat by AFC Bournemouth last weekend. Liverpool did earn a 6-0 win over Qarabag in the Champions League earlier this week, though, and will now hope they can build momentum in their bid to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Jeremie Frimpong limped out of the Qarabag triumph inside four minutes. The Netherlands international has had two hamstring injuries this season. Frimpong is now set for a ‘few weeks’ on the sidelines, although his problem is not as bad as first fear.
Joe Gomez was absent against Qarabag because of a hip issue, while Curtis Jones did not feature because of illness. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate has been unavailable for the past three games having been granted compassionate leave following the passing of his father.
Konate has returned to Merseyside, though, and is set to return to the match-day squad. Jones has recovered but Gomez remains sidelined. Slot added: “Curtis is again available. Joe will not be available but it doesn’t take much longer.”
However, there will be no Newcastle reunion for Alexander Isak. The striker joined Liverpool from the Magpies for a British record fee of £125 million on summer transfer deadline day. However, he suffered a broken leg when scoring in a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur last month.
Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni (both knee) will not play again this season because of respective long-term knee injuries.
