Chelsea are understood to have put the proposed loan move of Axel Disasi to West Ham United on hold while they focus on securing their own defensive reinforcements.
The west London side are reportedly in negotiations with Rennes for defender Jérémy Jacquet, but talks are not progressing as smoothly as hoped. As a result, Chelsea are not confident of completing that deal before Monday’s transfer deadline and are therefore reluctant to allow Disasi to leave until the situation is resolved.
West Ham Caught in the Middle
-----------------------------
The delay leaves West Ham in a difficult position, particularly as the club believed the move to be close to completion. An agent told [Claret & Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) late last night that “terms had been agreed”, but that confidence has now been undermined by Chelsea’s hesitation.
West Ham do have alternative defensive targets lined up, and it is possible the club will choose to move on rather than risk waiting on Chelsea to finalise their own business.
As recently as two days ago, a club source had described the Disasi deal as only “20 per cent likely”. That assessment appeared to change following a breakthrough yesterday, with [Fabrizio Romano claiming](https://www.claretandhugh.info/here-we-go-romano-announces-advanced-talks-for-next-west-transfer/) the transfer was close to being completed.
For now, though, West Ham are left in limbo — and with the clock ticking, patience may soon give way to pragmatism.
