Arne Slot reveals two Liverpool players will return vs Newcastle United

Arne Slot has provided a squad update ahead of hosting Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday evening.

The statistics paint a grim picture for the Liverpool faithful. Five matches without a Premier League win – four draws followed by that gut-wrenching 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth – has seen Slot’s side tumble to sixth in the table, now precariously positioned just two points off fourth place.

Wednesday’s 6-0 demolition of Qarabağ provided temporary relief, nothing more. Yes, Mohamed Salah finally broke his eight-game goal drought with a stunning free kick. Yes, the team produced attacking football reminiscent of their championship standards. Yes, Liverpool secured third place in the Champions League league phase. But one emphatic European victory doesn’t cure domestic malaise. It never has.

But for Arne Slot trying to turn around the domestic form, he will be able to count on two players in Curtis Jones and Ibrahima Konate for the clash that he didn’t have midweek- while Joe Gomez still remains out:

“Curtis is available, he was sick as I said, but he will now be available. Joe Gomez will not be available, he will not take that long [to return for the],

“Konate trains today and is in the squad tomorrow.”

However, Joe Gomez has been ruled out of the clash on Saturday after sustaining a hip injury during the Bournemouth defeat. It seems likely that we could see Gravenberch at centre-back and Wataru Endo filling at right-back once again with all the injury concerns Slot has to contend with.
