Tottenham vs. Manchester City – Team News, Match Preview and Prediction

Tottenham are coming off an impressive win over Frankfurt in UCL.

Tottenham return to Premier League action at the weekend again, as the North Londoners have a headline fixture scheduled. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are set to visit N17, as Thomas Frank & Co. could use this game as an attempt to get out of this domestic slump at Hotspur Way.

Frank has been under a lot of pressure this calendar year. But it has been those Champions League games that have been keeping him at bay and at his job. The Lilywhites have now had strong performances in two consecutive UCL games, one being that 2-0 win against Dortmund at home and then a win against Frankfurt by a similar margin but away in Germany.

Though this form has now really translated into Premier League games. The Lilywhites are now winless in five games in the English top tier.

With Man City arriving in North London with a growing injury crisis within the Etihad Stadium, Spurs supporters (despite the wide injury problems of their own) would be hoping to translate that European momentum into some points on the PL table.

Thomas Frank has ample injury problems to deal with going into yet another game. Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall will remain on the sidelines with an ankle sprain. Then the duo of Ben Davies and Rodrigo Bentancur continue to serve their extended spell on the sidelines.

Going into the attacking side of the game, the Dane head coach remains thin in options, as Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus are ruled out until March and April, respectively, owing to thigh injuries.

The midfield duo of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison also remain unavailable.

Pedro Porro was left out of the squad by Frank against Frankfurt in the midweek, and Frank confirmed that this one is owing to a hamstring problem that the Spaniard has been dealing with. And he could be sidelined for about four weeks because of this.

Talking about the ones who missed that game against Frankfurt, Micky van de Ven missed the midweek win with a “minor” problem, but he is expected to be back for the North Londoners this weekend.

Tottenham vs Man City Preview: Once Tottenham target Marc Guehi will start for City?

While if we look at the Citizens, they come to north London also a bit short-handed on their roster, especially at the back, as Pep Guardiola is expected to be without Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones for the game. This leaves their backline quite stretched.

Then comes the duo of Savinho and Jeremy Doku, who are both doubts for the game.

And as we continue to look at the wide forward options for Pep, he will also be likely without academy graduate Oscar Bobb as he edges closer to a move away from the Etihad.

There is at least some good news in the City camp, as the duo of Nico Gonzalez and Rodri are available again.

Predicted Lineup

Tottenham: Vicario; Spence, Romero, VDV, Udogie; Palhinha, Gray; Simons, Gallagher, Odoert; Solanke

Man City: Donnarumma; O’Reilly, Guehi, Ake, Nunes; Rodri; Semenyo, Reijnders, Silva, Cherki; Haaland

Tottenham vs Man City Preview: What is your game prediction?

The North Londoners have been struggling to turn performances into points in the English top tier this season. But this game is a genuine opportunity to make noise and grab some confidence again.

The Lilywhites did already beat City (FT 2-0) at Etihad earlier this season, which was only Frank’s second league game in charge.

The Dane head coach has had a reputation for Guardiola’s sides even when he was at Brentford.

And given that City are having their own injury problems, we think that Tottenham can hold them to a draw at home this weekend.

TTLB Prediction: Tottenham 1 – 1 Man City
