Tottenham looking to sign former Liverpool winger

Tottenham Hotspur’s season has presented a familiar paradox that Liverpool fans know all too well – thriving in Europe while struggling domestically. The North London club secured a remarkable top-eight finish in the Champions League, defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in their final group stage match to book their place in the round of 16. Yet this European success stands in stark contrast to their Premier League struggles, where they languish in 14th place

Thomas Frank’s position appears increasingly precarious. The Danish coach has faced mounting criticism after a winless run that saw Spurs eliminated from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, leaving European competition as the sole bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign. A recent 2-2 draw at Burnley extended their struggles, prompting frustrated supporters to voice their discontent in the stands.

It’s against this backdrop that Tottenham are actively seeking reinforcements in the January transfer window, with injuries to key attacking players like Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski. According to the Daily Mail, Spurs have identified former Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling as a potential solution to their woes.

Sterling’s availability comes after a dramatic end to his Chelsea career this week. The 31-year-old left Stamford Bridge via mutual termination on January 28th, bringing an end to what can only be described as a disappointing spell in West London. The England international had 18 months remaining on a lucrative contract worth over £325,000 per week when both parties agreed to part ways.

According to Sky Sports, his representatives are in discussions with seven to eight clubs of Champions League caliber. The Daily Mail reports that alongside Tottenham, Italian giants Juventus and Napoli have expressed interest, while fellow Premier League sides Burnley and Crystal Palace have also been mentioned as potential destinations.

Sterling is expected to lower his wages demands in a bid to find a new club.
