Arne Slot makes big Liverpool transfer statement over possible January signing

Arne Slot has been quizzed on the possibility of Liverpool considering potential emergency or loan signings before next Monday night’s transfer deadline in light of their worsening injury issues.

LIVERPOOL looked like such an impressive side last season and played the kind of football that many to teams love, which led to them pushing on and winning that Premier League in Arne Slots first season with the club.

But this season they have not looked like the side that dominated last season, with poor performances from the clubs big names, and alot of injuries causing Arne Slot to start worrying for his job in the long run.

But the injury to Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley has caused even more concerns for the Dutch boss and there has been some speculation in the media that he would like the board to delve into that transfer kitty and bring in some cover to help ease the pain.

WHAT HAS ARNE SLOT SAID?

However – it seems that the latest injury to Frimpong will not mean LIVERPOOL delve into that transfer kitty for a new right-back: “We as a club always make decisions that we, at least, think [are] smart decisions,” he said. “So, we not only look at the short term, we also look at the long term, longer term – that’s why we sign young players as well, very good players but young ones that can still develop.

“Now we can see this development with a few. And it always depends on are there players available that we think can help us? And if they are, can we afford them? And does this also be helpful for the longer-term future because our players come back from injury as well?

“I just said we don’t have a squad where we have four right-backs and 12 midfielders and three or four No.9s – that’s not how it works over here. So, we have to do the smart things for the near future but also for the longer future.

“Let’s first see how Jeremie is. Maybe he’s not able to play Saturday but maybe he’s able to play one or two days later. We now go into a schedule with one game a week, so that would usually mean less injuries but you’re never sure.”

SHOULD LIVERPOOL ADD TO THE SQUAD THIS JANUARY?

LIVERPOOL spent some serious money last summer, so making moves this January was never really going to happen from Slot as he believes the squad is good enough, and big enough, to compete for all the major titles, despite the clubs poor performances.

If Liverpool are going to add a player to two to the side before deadline day, it will probably be a central defender, as that is the biggest issue at the club right now

COULD LIVERPOOL SIGN LEAO?

LIVERPOOL have been linked with Rafael Leao for the last few seasons, they have even made some moves, but they have been unable to convince Milan into letting one of the clubs star players leave the side, they have been unable to get a deal done.

But LIVERPOOL could really be a tempting move for Leao to make that is for sure.
