West Ham open talks with Chelsea over late January deal

Back involved: Axel Disasi has returned to training with the Chelsea first team

Chelsea Football Newsletter

The 27-year-old defender has been back training with the Chelsea first team, having originally been part of the so-called ‘bomb squad’ under Enzo Maresca, but there is no prospect of him playing any meaningful minutes for the Blues this season.

Chelsea’s preference is to sell Disasi, but West Ham are keen on a loan move and talks are ongoing.

There is nothing imminent but West Ham are looking to further strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad in the last four days of the January window as they battle against relegation from the Premier League.

Spanish winger Adama Traore recently arrived from Fulham to follow the earlier signings of Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos, Pablo Felipe and Keiber Lamadrid.

Attention has now switched to defensive reinforcements, with West Ham having brought an early end to Igor Julio’s season-long loan move from Brighton earlier this week.

Disasi has had interest from England, France and Italy but no agreement with any club has been reached yet.

Roma are another suitor who have registered an interest in taking the centre-back on loan, with Serie A rivals Fiorentina also linked in recent days.
